Reading the matrix
Row chooses a row and Column chooses a column. In a general game each cell shows two payoffs: Row’s at the lower left, in blue, and Column’s at the upper right, in orange.
In a zero-sum game each cell shows only Row’s payoff. Column gets the negative of it, so Row wants the numbers high and Column wants them low.
Dominance: click a strategy that is strongly dominated in the game that’s left, then the strategy that dominates it (the menus under the matrix do the same). When nothing more can go, press “Nothing else is dominated”.
Nash equilibrium: click Row’s payoff in each column that is Row’s best response, and Column’s payoff in each row that is Column’s best response (star all ties); in a zero-sum game, switch “Starring for” between Row (the highest number in each column) and Column (the lowest number in each row). Press Check, then click the equilibria.
Saddle point: fill in each row’s minimum and each column’s maximum, click Row’s maximin strategy and Column’s minimax strategy, say whether there is a saddle point, and press Check.
On a keyboard, Tab to a payoff, cell or name and press Enter or Space to click it.
Click a strategy name in the matrix editor to rename it (C, D, Stag, Hare…). Payoffs can be whole numbers, decimals or fractions. Press Enter or click Done to use it.
